MSC Adviser manages investments for institutional clients, including publicly traded business development companies (BDCs) and private funds. MSC Adviser's parent company, Main Street, focuses on providing debt and equity capital to lower middle market companies. MSC Adviser generally invests in similar investments as Main Street, following Main Street's private loan investment strategy. MSC Adviser does not generally tailor its investment management services to the individualized needs of any Client’s investors.
MSC Adviser is compensated through asset-based management fees and may also receive performance-based fees. Management fees for private funds are typically set at the fund's first closing and are generally non-negotiable. For MSIF, the base management fee is 1.5% of the company's average total assets, with potential future reductions based on changes to MSIF's investment portfolio composition. MSC Adviser can also receive compensation from borrowers for loan administration services, which are typically offset against management fees to benefit the client's investors.
