Schear Capital manages a pooled investment (a hedge fund) for a small group of accredited investors, investing in stocks and options. The goal is capital appreciation. The fund is audited annually by an independent accounting firm. Schear Capital has authority to trade and disburse funds from the account, which is held at Charles Schwab.
Schear Capital charges an annual fee of 1.25% of the hedge fund's net asset value, calculated at the end of each quarter. This fee covers all operating expenses except for annual audit fees. They may also receive a performance-based fee of 15% of net capital appreciation exceeding 12% annualized, but this hasn't been paid since 2007.
